Important!! Current scope of database
RouteFinder provides details of college-to-university study routes through which applicants may enter undergraduate study EITHER from Higher National Certificate (HNC) directly to Year2 OR from Higher National Diploma (HND) directly to Year3.
The routes provided through this search engine are 1) agreed between the colleges and universities in South East Scotland named below and 2) confirmed by the receiving universities.
Colleges Universities
Adam Smith College Edinburgh Napier University
Borders College Heriot-Watt University
Carnegie College Queen Margaret University
Edinburgh College University of Edinburgh
Forth Valley College University of Stirling
West Lothian College
Entry routes to university from college HNC/D courses also exist which are beyond the current scope of the RouteFinder database because they:
  • Are informal and thus unconfirmed by the receiving HEI;
  • Do not enable entry with full academic credit from HNC to year 2 or HND to year 3 of undergraduate study.
Edinburgh College
Edinburgh’s Telford College, Jewel & Esk College and Stevenson College Edinburgh were merged in October 2012 and renamed Edinburgh College. Students who gained an HNC or HND from one of the older colleges should review the Edinburgh College routes to undergraduate study for their HN award.
Further guidance and support
We strongly recommend that students seek additional guidance from college and university student advisers before submitting their final undergraduate course entry application(s).
